Biography
Yang Hongwei graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) with a master’s degree in 2008 and began teaching there. In 2011, he pursued a doctoral degree under the supervision of internationally renowned artist Xu Bing and completed it in 2015. He was a visiting scholar at Columbia University in 2014 and a visiting artist at Cornell University in 2015. In 2016, he was a visiting artist at the National Academy of Art in Sofia, Bulgaria, and in 2020, he became a visiting artist at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York, USA.
Yang held his debut solo exhibition of black-and-white wood engravings in Shanghai in 2001, followed by a solo exhibition at the Today Art Museum in Beijing in 2012. His works have been selected for the 13th through the 17th National Printmaking Exhibitions. He received the Gold Prize at the 15th National Printmaking Exhibition (2000) and the Bronze Prize at the Beijing International Printmaking Biennale (2003). His works are collected by Columbia University, the National Art Museum of China, and other institutions.
