Biography
Wang Yuping, born in 1962 in Beijing, China, graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. In the late 1980s, with the deepening of the reform and opening-up policy, a large number of overseas contemporary artworks flowed into China. At that time, as a student of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, he was deeply influenced by the Netherlandish school of painting and German Expressionism. In the 1990s, a new art form emerged, which we call ‘Neo-Expressionism.’ Wang Yuping was one of the main artists to emerge during this period: in 1987, he exhibited his works at the inaugural ‘Chinese Oil Painting Exhibition’ (China Art Museum); in 1993, he held a solo exhibition at the China Art Museum, attracting widespread attention. He later participated in the Venice Biennale (1997) and the Shanghai Biennale (2000), among other international events, remaining active on various international stages. Currently, he mainly lives and works in Beijing.
