Press Release
BTAP Space is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition “Unbounded”, on view from 23 December 2025 to 30 April 2026 at the Beizhong Cultural and Technology Industrial Park in Shijingshan District, Beijing. As an institution dedicated to fostering in-depth exchange and development in Asian contemporary art, the opening exhibition will present representative works by leading Asian artists.
Curated by Yukihito Tabata, Director of BTAP Space, with renowned art critic Li Xianting serving as Academic Chair, “Unbounded” explores distinctive trajectories within Asian contemporary art and embraces the expressive possibilities emergent in this new era of ancient Asian civilizations. Through artistic practice, the exhibition seeks to construct a future-oriented vision rooted in Eastern cultural contexts while remaining global in scope.
This exhibition brings together 26 distinguished artists, including Che Jianquan, Choi Myoung-Young, Koji Enokura, Kishio Suga, Isao Sugiyama, Jin Sha, Lee Dong-Youb, Lee Jin Woo, Lin Yusi, Liu Xuguang, Ma Liuming, Shinjiro Okamoto, Su Xinping, Sui Jianguo, Tang Hui, Tian Wei, Tomohito Ishii, Wang Shuye, Wang Yongxue, Wang Yuping, Wei Jiujie, Xu Bing, Ye Jianqing, Zhang Wenchao, Zhu Jianzhong and Zhu Lan. Through a shared commitment to adopting unique perspectives on Eastern philosophical and forward-looking artistic languages, these artists are dedicated to exploring the aesthetics, philosophies, and expressive forms of a “New Asia.”
The founding of BTAP Space marked many years of preparation. Its mission is not only to facilitate collaboration among Asian artists, curators, and art institutions, but also to serve as an essential platform connecting with the global art world. Through high-quality exhibitions and scholarly research, the gallery aims to systematically map and promote Asia’s contributions to contemporary art, while exploring creative integrations of tradition and the future.
At the heart of “Unbounded” is the principle of “drawing upon rather than imitating, integrating rather than replacing.” It does not simply attempt to challenge Western artistic paradigms; instead, it seeks a more inclusive artistic language. Curator Yukihito Tabata notes:
“Through this exhibition, we hope to re-examine the position of Asian art within a global context and attempt to foster new possibilities.”
