Biography
Koji Enokura was born in Tokyo in 1942. In 1968, he completed his graduate studies in oil painting at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1970, he participated in the “10th Japan International Art Exhibition: Human and Matter.” The following year, his work Wallreceived the Study Abroad Award at the 7th Paris Youth Biennale. After winning the award, he spent a year traveling in Paris and held solo exhibitions at the Aachen Museum in former West Germany and the National Museum of Art in Osaka, gaining international acclaim. Koji Enokura passed away in 1995 at the age of 52. After his death, large-scale retrospective exhibitions were held in his memory, drawing significant attention both in Japan and abroad to his lifelong exploration of materiality in his works. Additionally, in 2007, as a member of the Mono-ha movement, his works were featured in the exhibition “What Was Mono-ha?” organized by BTAP (Beijing Tokyo Art Project).
